I don’t know about you, but I’m kinda excited for Battlefield 6. Given that this is EA we’re talking about, the excitement factor is still solidly in ‘cautiously optimistic’ territory, but with more optimism than caution this time around.
It’s been quite some time since I’ve played a decent shooter — and yes, I’m aware that Call of Duty exists — but no game has ever offered the kind of large-scale, chaotic, open-map warfare that Battlefield offered in the past. CoD has never had — and probably never will have — a RendeZook. Thunder Run and that iconic F-18 mission from Battlefield 3? I don’t think there’s an equivalent in any game. Just about every epic FPS moment I can think of from the last 15 years of gaming involves Battlefield games.
After a slew of disappointments, most notably Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 6 looks like a return to form. Both the single-player and multiplayer reveal trailers were fairly epic, and the hours of gameplay footage on YouTube seems polished and very much like the Battlefield we know and love.
Take a look…
Pretty, ain’t it?
Surprisingly, all that pretty doesn’t come at a price. System requirements appear to be quite modest, indicating a very well optimised game, and there are going to be a couple of multiplayer open betas before the game releases.
The recommended spec for 1440p60 gaming indicates that an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT will suffice, as will an 8-core CPU from 2019. The base spec only requires an RTX 2060 and AMD equivalent.
On top of that, EA, like Microsoft, has shied away from $80 pricing — you can pre-order the game for Rs 3,999 (don’t!) — and has re-introduced the class system from pre-2042 titles in the series. As is evident from the trailer, Battlefield’s signature destructible environments are now more destructible than they’ve ever been.
The open beta for the game goes live from August 9 to 10 and from August 14 to 17. Early Access is available from August 7 to 8 for those who signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31 or watched the Twitch streams on the same day.
